Hi,

10 month old boisterous, happy, talkative (well, very babbly!), healthy, secure etc etc

Chews toys and things, ok. But occasionally when he and I have a tickle and a cuddle, he wraps his sharp gnashers round my shoulder, nose, ear or whatever's closest and chomps. As it's usually in the middle of some niceness, when I say no and look sad/stern he thinks it's hilarious. I did try putting him down on the floor and walking off once, and he diverted his attention to toys straight away. I was liking the affectionate play though and I was a bit miffed to have to stop, or I would have been rewarding the biting wouldn't I. I've tried introducing nose-rubbing, as 'kisses' are just too slobbery!

Also, perhaps it's only a sort of suction imprint but I've seen tooth marks on nipples after feeding! Not at all sore to feed though.

Not that I want other people to get gnawed, but why does he only seem to do this to me? I think it's affectionate. Is he half-puppy?!

Yes, he is half-puppy. I remember how surprised I was with my first dc on realising that managing their behaviour remnded me very much of training my boxer pup many years previously.

Really, the only way to stop the biting AFAIK is to say a humourless "No. Do not bite." put him down and leave him or turn your back. If he then gets engrossed in his toys that's fine. Eventually hewill get theidea, especially if you put him down somewhere boring.

It's a phase many babies go through, and it will pass.

My 11 mo does this too. Amused by half -puppy! I prefer to think she is still getting the hang of kissing.

Oh good, puppy rules it is then!

He is currently spark out on my lap for morning nap, I'm still lounging in bed with the Sunday papers.

Life is good.
