Redwood · 28/05/2010 21:35

my ds is on lactulose and has been for 8 months. I want advise, is he still constipated? He now poos most days but it is an accident at school. He sees to be with-holding by sitting down when he needs to poo and then later having an accident.
Any advice please.

I think it can become a bit of a cycle. Often starts with child getting bit constipated then passes big poo which hurts to pass, so then they get reluctant to go and so hold it in and become more constipated so that it hurts again.
Ideally you want to ditch the laxatives in the long term but it can be difficult to get out of the cycle.

What's his diet like? Any chance to increase the amount of fruit/veg? Does he drink enough?

thanks, diet is good for fruit but poor veg eater. He drinks a lot a home but not so much at school. We are on hols now for a week and I've decided to ditch the lactulose and up the fruit drink and see what happens as I can't keep getting him from school beause of accidents....
