DS is 2yrs 6mnths. I am worried about his speech as other than a few words, he is not saying words clearly. What I mean by this is that he is often leaving the ends off words such as toast comes out as toe, bus as bu, bread is breh etc

His only clear words are : mummy, daddy, juice, car, bed, cow and pig.

Now, I know all kids are different, but even DD2 who was 3 before she spoke in sentances, was still talking more than DS is.

Do I have grounds to be concerned or will he magically over the next 6mnths "get it"? I just keep imagining him starting nursery and not being understood :-(

when he doesn't finish words do you gently make him repeat them properly? try that .. then I'd just wait and see what is what in 6 - 9 mnths and no improvement he may well need a speech therapist.

We have been but he just says the same thing again..... it is almost as if there is something stopping him finishing off the word!

I just dont know if its an age thing (im not sure it is) or whether there is an underlying problem.

sounds normal to me! honestly as the mum of 4 boys, the youngest turned two in march and his speach is very similar, he also misses the end of words.

he had his two year check recently adn the hv wasnt worried at all as it was quite clear that he is TRYING to talk, he babbles a lot and is constantly making noise, word wise he says mummy, daddy, bubbs (brothers!) down, cuggle (cuddle) NO! cracker (meaning biscuit) car, bus but misses the s off, he also tries to say digger and tractor oh he has just learnt to say wee wee, poo and bum

anyway hv main thing is that they interact with siblings and are trying to be vocal and talk etc,i have certainly noticed a big diff just int he last week with ds4 in that he is trying to say more words.

i remember worrying about ds2 when he was a similar age but all of a sudden he just got it, same with ds3. and with ds4 i actually got his hearing tested again and it was fine.

its normal to worry i think but he sounds fine to me!

Thanks so much.

I will sit and wait and see then! Fingers crossed he "gets it" by the time he is 3 and going to nursery!
