DD got her first teeth at around 12-13 months.

She's now 20 months and has now only got her eight front teeth and a random molar. So, she was late to get them and then slower when they did come through.

I mentionned it to a lot of people and they all said it was well within normal range.

My dc3 didn't cut his first tooth till nearly a year old. At 20 months he still hasn't got the four front bottom teeth, though the molars are just beginning to cut.

All I can say to you is that lots of people have said to me that cutting teeth late is a good sign for the quality of the child's teeth for the rest of his life. My elder brother cut his teeth very late, and has never had any fillings or any dental problems.

Do you have a family history of late teeth? I would suggest that it is fairly unlikely that he doesn't have any teeth at all, unless there are other exceptional circumstances, so they will probably push through one day soon.

My son is 15months (almost 16m) and he just cut his first last weekend.

My hubbi's neice was 18m before she got any.

I wouldn't worry at all, I think when they are a bit older it is easier for them to brush them.

I didn't have any teeth at all until I was over 16 months old. Apparently my brother who is fifteen months younger than me teethed at the same time I did. He was early and I was v v late. Must have been fun for my mum! So don't worry too much.

I have perfectly normal teeth as an adult, btw.

Hi,thanks for your replies, it certainly helps to hear of other similar situations. No family history of late teething and ds1 was around 8 mths when he got his first tooth.Ds2 is very petite for his age at only 19pounds and on the 2nd centile for weight and 50th for length,he has always been slow to grow weight wise which I wonder could influence rate that the teeth come through? other than that he is happy and healthy,so will wait with interest, thanks.

My DD got her first teeth at 15 months, which were her molars. My dentist was no use, didn't believe me when I told him at 9 months that she didn't have any (yes, I know that teeth would be white bumps in her gums). Now at 18 months she has 8. I agree that it made it much easier with brushing getting them later!

moaningminniewhingesagain · 26/05/2010 13:10

DS didn't get first tooth til 13m. now 17m and has 5 - got three within a fortnight!

Tis normal I think, enjoy not having to brush them yet

tothymammysing · 26/05/2010 13:21

My DD got her first tooth at 14 months

Worrier28 · 26/05/2010 13:25

My 13 month old has two bottom teeth which he got at 9 months, no more since!

mcflumpy · 26/05/2010 15:17

My DD is coming up to her first birthday in a couple of weeks and has none! She's on the 75th percentile so don't think it's weight related. I can see them through her gums but they've been like this for months. She seems to teethe on 3 week cycles (on & off) and has done since @ 5 months. Each time I think, this is it...but sadly not yet. Haven't actually talked to hv about it as I'm not overly concerned. Certainly doesn't stop her chowing down...

My mum said I cut my first at 11 months.

Thanks again for your replies. To be honest its only in the last month since he turned one that i've been thinking about it.

All his little friends of the same age have at least a few teeth, but suppose they are all different, and its so true about not having to brush teeth yet!

DD is 13 months and no teeth here either. Nephews and Niece were all late with teeth, so I'm not panicking. One of her friends who is one in a week only has 2 teeth.

DawnAS · 27/05/2010 12:26

My PFB DD got her first two teeth in the same week, about two weeks ago and it's her 1st birthday next week.

I second what another poster said about the teeth being stronger if they come through later. Since mine are rubbish and my DH's are fantastic - I'm hoping she's got her teeth from his side of the family!

ChablisorSancerre · 27/05/2010 14:55

My DD has just turned 4 and she is still missing a tooth at the front. Dentist just looks confused
