DS (2.5) biting at nursery

DS has had a history of biting at nursery. The nursery has seemed relatively relaxed about it up to now - "it's a phase", "he's copying the older kids" - but when our nanny picked him up today they said he had had a bad couple of days and were going to start a behavioural management strategy with him. I think this means they're going to record what seems to trigger it, what seems to resolve it, etc but have only heard this second hand. Does anyone have experience of the biting or such a strategy? It's left me very down that my DS - who is generally very loving at home - is hurting other children and that nursery feel they need a strategy to deal with him. I'll obviously speak to nursery tomorrow but just wanted to understand how other people had handled this

Have got this more in proportion this morning, I think, but would still appreciate input from anyone with experience of this.
