Possible for a 6mo to be territorial?!

DS is 6mo+. Last week we had 4 of his peer group and their mums round for cake and play. He sees them every week, and goes to lots of classes with other babies and mums but has never had anyone round before.

He went TOTALLY beserk. Poor little thing just sat on the mat and cried, whilst they played around him and with his toys. It got even worse when I left the room momentarily and so he had to spend most of the time sat on my lap sobbing.

Is it possible that he could be territorial/posessive about his play area at this age?!! If so what do you think I should do about it, if anything? Have people round more often - if anyone would consider returning that is.....?

I remember something similar happening with my eldest when he was about that age. I had 3 or 4 of his 'friends' around for a pool party (read paddling pool in the garden). We'd had some of the babies to visit previously, but never all of them at once. All the guests had a lovely time, but ds1 alternately fussed, cried and screamed all afternoon. I wondered at the time whether he was unsettled at some perceived intrusion, but think it was probably just a coincidence and that something else, possibly teething, was behind his bad mood.

Only thing for it is to invite them all around again (if you dare!) & see if it happens next time.
