Hi my DS2 is being challenging and I don't know how to put a stop to it.

He climbs out of his cotbed and opens the stairgate constantly during the night end evening until I am ending up shouting like a harpie at the poor boy

This morning he did the same thing at 6

How on earth did he work out how to open the stair gate (you have to press a button lift the handle and then lift the gate up and over the bottom bar)

Should I buy a cage?

yes buy a cage bit drastic but can you put a bike lock on the stair gate? don't tell him the combination!

He is probably incredibly bright - and will go on and be a genius.

DH built a special high stairgate for our DS (long time ago) as he too was a Houdini...

we had this problem, we have solved it with using one of those stairgates that is like a rollerblind, i got it from kiddicare, they are a faff to open and ds4 hasnt learnt to do it yet. he can open all the other gates ie the one into the kitchen and the one at the bottom of the stairs. the rollerblind one is at the top of the stairs.

re beds, cant help you there, mine gets himself out of his grobag, pjs etc and then comes back downstairs, i just act very boring and put him back into his pjs and back to bed as many times as it takes......

the one saving grace is that as he is my fourth i know they grow out of it!

I used to dream of having a padded cell to lock our son into at that age. Not helpful I know.

It could be useful though my idiot of an ex H thought these lovely vertical radiators that look to the ds's just like ladders would be a great idea despite my protests and where did I find him last night at the frigging top of the radiator about 6ft up
