DD screams when handed to anyone else :-(

My DD is now 16 weeks old. In the last couple of weeks she has started to absolutely scream if I hand her to anyone else to hold her, even the grandparents. She stops if I take her back, but it seems to really upset her. I'm not sure what to do - my instinct is to take her back, as I don't want her to be upset, but on the other hand I want her to be comfortable with other people! Do I persevere and hand her over and stay in the room, or do I hand her over and leave the room? Or do I just hope it is a phase and she will get used to other people eventually? Help!

Have you tried standing close to them and smiling and making bright, encouraging faces/noises ? My DD (14 wks) is getting more clingy (previously happy to be anyone) and doing this seems to settle her with smeone else

My ds2 was like this. I didn't start trying to get him to go to others until a bit older. At about 5 or 6 months I began handing him over to my very understanding friend. He eventually got use to her, and it seemed to carry on from there. In just a little while he started going to grandparents and other friends reasonably well.

He's 3 now and pretty outgoing saying "hi" to everyone we pass on the school run. So I wouldn't worry too much. I really enjoyed his cliningness after a while, as my first son never was the clingy type. Enjoy it while it lasts!
