DS (7 Middle child) has become more and more quiet recently - i can see this when he is with his friends and he is the same with grown ups.

He is not an unconfident boy - infact often gets chosen as footie captain, school councillor, beaver rep etc, so its not as if he is a wallflower. But i am worried that he is becoming more inhibited... he is quite mature and is very hard working and well behaved despite being the youngest in his year...

My friend said to me recently that she could see him going off the rails when he was a teenager - but he wouldn't tell me and Dh about it!

I want him to be more chatty and open - how can i help him become this...?

at your 'friend'

it may just be a natural thing.
How is he at school. What does he say when you ask him about school, friends etc. Have you asked at school ifthey are aware of anything

Just try talking to him more and let him know you are there for him and ask if things are ok. Tell him if EVER he wants to chat , you are happy to. Maybe even tell him you have noticed him become quieter and that it concerned you....ask him if he is happy , etc.

When we saw Ds's teacher at parents eve - she was full of how mature and hard working he was - she said that he was very confident etc - but i worry that Ds is too serious for a y year ols - he loves football and is like stato - reeling off scores and facts...! I think that maybe he will be a 'cool'kid but what my friend has said has made me feel wooried that he won't share stuff -and be open like ds1 is...
