Spotty 6-week old baby

My 6 week old son has come out in the most horrendus spots all over his face and on his scalp, behind his ears etc.

I presume that this is normal (I read it somewhere), but I don't know how long it lasts and it is really unsightly.

Does anyone know how long this stage lasts for?

I have found Doublebase great. All cleared up by 3 months xx

A few weeks at most.

Don't put anything on it. It's normal. Just plain water and pat dry. It goes on its own.

V v rarely it gets infected and you need mild hydrocortisone to sort it but like I said it's rare and you'd know.

Doesn't look great (and worse if they're hot and/or cross) but it's normal and won't last.

Yup, my dd had that from about 3 to 8 weeks. It looks awful, like acne. Also known as milk spots. Lasted a few weeks and it does go on its own. You shouldn't put anything on it, but you can always get the health visitor to take a look if it goes on for more than 6 weeks or so (or, of course, if it gets infected, but that's v. rare, as ShowOfHands says).

And congratulations!

Agree with the above poster, I called it or knew it as milk spots. I even informed DS's Consultant Paed that was what it was! He was very enlightened!!

Only lasts a few weeks, 2 ish months. Just bathe as you would normally, no need for creams.

Congratulations on your little baby boy.

My DD had it from about 2 to 8 weeks, too. My HV reassured me it was normal, but it had got me worried. No idea why we don't get warned about when leaving hospital with our little bundles.

My DP photo-shopped them out of the piccies

My DS was like this too, and is now a gorgeous, clear skinned 4 year old (the spots lasted only a matter of weeks, by the way).

DD didn't get any, so I guess it just depends on the child.

Yip, got my own acne ridden specimen here too. Elder one had it too. Just another thing for a new parent to worry about!

It's your hormones from the birth, my ds had two huge spots on his nose, cleared up in a few weeks.
