All of a sudden, DS hates having a bath!

DS is 4 months. He used to love having a bath, however for the last 2 we have had screaming hysteria. Why is this? Is it just a weird phase??

Hi Zebedee! This is something both my DS went through but not my DD! This phase does pass i promise but take the following steps to phase it out.

Sit DS in the bath with no water in but a bowl of water in there too (and some toys to distract). Encourage him to sit and splash in the water and wash with a sponge. when he is happy with this get him to sit in the bowl (dip his feet in and out in a game to get him used to it)Then you can start with a shallow bath and the bowl and then gradually go back to normal. It's a strange one though and i never worked out a reason why they both suddenly hated the bath.

Often do it again at toddlerhood.

At this young I'd just give him a flannel wash for a few weeks/month and then try again.

My DS did that when he was 6 months old. I posted about it, too. It lasted a week and he now loves his bath again.

He also went through a phase of hating his buggy. That lasted a week, too. It's all a phase!

My daughter did this when she was about 3 months old - it stared when she had a minor cold, and for a couple of weeks afterwards. I think she was generally grumpy when she had a cold and took a while to remember that she does like the bath really! I just persevered with the baths as normal and was greatly relieved when she stared to enjoy them again.
