Hi

Ds is 4 months and when he had his 8 week check they checked that testicles has descended and they had, however, I was just bathing him and noticed that they are back up inside him, the scrotum was completely empty. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance - as you can tell its my first son!

My Ds's do this too! I found it really odd for a while, but figured as they come back down then not to worry. My ds is 7.5m and they're down more than up now, but i think it's something they do for a fair while anyway.

I get the question tho, i've got 2 DDs and was totally unprepared for how different having a boy is!

How old was your ds bloss? I may now mention this to my hv next time i go, though they do seem to be down most of the time.

Testicles do go up and down depending on temperature. It's entirely normal. As bloss says, there is a relatively rare condition where they don't come back down again. If you're concerned, put your DS in a warm bath for a while as that will encourage them to descend.

That makes sense as I had just taken him out of bath when I noticed and it wasn't very warm. Thanks for replying. I'll keep an eye on it.

Quite normal. Testicles not fully descended or permanently descended until a few year sold are not a probem. Ask the GP if they do not descend properly by age 8.

Sounds like your DS does have testicles that do descend and yes they do go up and down with temperature.

I went to the GP about 3 months ago and asked him as DS1 is 10. The GP was not very concerned but did say it should be sorted out before puberty.

I also have some friends who has a DS with this problem. He was operated on at age 8 about 2 years ago.
