So what sort of sounds/words should she be able to say by now? She is behind compared to the girls of the same age we know, and i will be attended the sure start talking session next week to get her near some SALTs to see if they think we have a problem or not. IN the mean time any advice woud be gratefully recieved.

Took my dd to the sure start session when she was 3, they sent her for a hearing test as she was slightly behind with certain sounds, her hearing was fine and she now (4yrs) has caught up just fine. My ds could only say about 3 words at 2 yrs, he will be 3 in August and now we can't shut him up! I was worried for a while, especially when you see other children the same age babbling away, but I think in most cases, like my ds, he was just being a bit lazy, it was easier to point! My Mum says I was also a late talker, and I have heard it can be hereditary. Hope the sure start session reassures you.

well my DD1 is just 2, she repeats everything that is said to her (whether she understands the meaning or not), after being told what something is, more often that not she will be able to remember and say it. she can string about 4 syllables together on her own (eg. "bye bye mummy") and about 5 syllables if she is repeating something that is said to her.

not sure how this compares to other children, or your DD? hope it helps though.
