3 yr old son behaviour issues

I have a rather vocal son. From being a baby he would cry a lot as a toddler was very early to speak and now as a 3 year old does not stop talking / making noise. He is in his own imaginative world and what I am not sure about is how much to try to reduce. It is fine when he is here on his own but when we are here with friends their children say how noisy he is and I don't know if I should tell him to be quiet. ON one hand I like the fact that he is enacting but on the other hand the noisy pirate games, singing and shouting becomes a headache.

I feel bad for telling him off when he is actually playing nicely although a little loud.

Does anyone have any advice?

At three years old I would say it is fine to ask him to be quieter at times if that is what you want to do. But I also wouldn't worry that he is noisey- he sounds like a fabulous little boy and when he starts school he'll be asked to be quiet all the time so let him make the most of now!!!!
