3 year old speech - lisp??

My dd is coming up to 3. She talks a lot and has a good vocabulary. She can say most sounds apart from J,R and L but I believe this is age appropriate.

What I am not sure about is the clarity of her speech - she talks with her tongue between her teeth especially with S sounds. This can make her hard to understand at times. Is this normal?? I'm asking because she did have a few sessions with SALT who signed her off but I wonder if she needs to be referred again?

Would appreciate any replies or experiences!!

Hi, my dd2 is 4 (going on 5) and I had similar concerns about her lisp. She was referred to a SALT, who said it was nothing to worry about, and should correct itself when her big teeth come through. She actually has a fair gap between her two top teeth, which has gotten larger as she has grown, so I'm hoping when her adult teeth come through they will be bigger and there will be less of a gap! Thanks Joolyjoolyjoo! DD also has a gap between her teeth. She just sounds a bit slushy when she talks IYKWIM! I'm really hoping her speech will get clearer. She does have some fine motor problems so I guess the two might be linked. Still, I can usually understand her and that's the main thing I suppose!

Ds1 had an interdental lisp when a pre schooler but was given a programme to correct it. He didn't have a gap between his teeth though. The main part of the prog was to make his tongue a snake and hiss with a long ssss sound in front of a mirror while hiding the snake. Also have a bag of items w an s at the start or end. Take it in turns to take one out and say the name of the item without showing your tongue.

The lisp went away until his teeth fell out recently!
