7mth old not really sitting up?

My DD is 7 months old and can sit up on her own but doesn't really want to. Has anyone else had this happen?

She either leans back so she can be pressing up against me or slithers back down to the rug so she's lying down again. I'm not sure if this is normal or perhaps she's just a bit lazy, like her Mummy and thinks why sit when you can lie?!

I'm not sure how to encourage her more to sit up more unaided either. If I move away, she just flops back in the happy anticipation that there will be a comfy Mum ready to break the fall. I don't want her to bop her head by suddenly stopping being the safety mat.

Any advice/experiences would be really appreciated

DD did this - totally refused to sit up and would throw herself backwards. that is, until Christmas day, when my friend bought her a toy she liked the look of, then she sat up for TWO hours!!

Do you mean she can sit unaided but doesn't want to? If she can do it perhaps use a baby gym to dangle toys at arm height so that she needs to stay sitting to play with them. 7 months is still young - some babies don't sit well until around 9 months.

Thanks everyone - it sounds like maybe this is a ploy on her behalf to get new toys!
