Toddler started babbling again

My DS is 2 1/2 and has, over the last week or so, started to babble again. His speech is pretty normal for his age and this doesn't seem to have changed - he is still talking normally most of the time, but has also started saying lots of gobbledgook!

He has also started being a bit more babyish in some other ways. For example he will sometimes want something and will point at it and either whine or grunt instead of asking for it.

Does anyone else have a toddler that does or has done this?

Have you had another baby or spent time around another baby? If he has got the idea that being babyish gets extra attention he will do this a lot.

It may be that he is just learning about verbal trills and language rhythms. Try singing songs, that can help. Also the grunting/pointing thing, he's trying out whether he can get you to do things without him having to bother to speak.

Don't sweat it. The trick is to only pay attention to behaviour you'd like to see repeated and ignore the rest.

Thank you. I haven't had a baby, no, nor have I been spending time around babies. I suppose he may have been at nursery - I'll ask them.

Ds is the same age and has just started doing this as well.

Guess it's just a developmental stage

The pointing and grunting thing I find is a symptom of tiredness / teething / being out of sorts.
