is this a normal stage i am wondering, ds sometimes does not want to be separated from me when i put him down in his cot for bed. he will be showing all signs of being tired, but when it comes time for sleep, he screams and wails and gets himself so worked up.

we've tried singing to him, comforting him, reading to him, but as soon as we leave the room, he is crying again.
tonight i resulted to making sure he was okay, gave him some calpol (as he is teething), and used the method of controlled crying we would use if he woke in the middle of the night...

i dont know why he does it! but its maddening !!!

(touch wood i think he's asleep...)

Hiya lunarx! My ds is 13 months as well and is exactly the same. We were starting to get into a really bad habit of just letting him fall asleep downstairs with me as it made life easier - trouble is he stays awake longer.

Over the last couple of weeks i've tried a very rough idea of cc - I dont time it, i just go up and leave it a little longer. Sometimes it's just that he gets in such a state that he falls asleep of sheer exhaustion from crying!!

I do feel guilty letting him cry but if it makes him realise that bedtime means bedtime then it'll be better in the long run.......I hope!!!!

If you find something that works give me a shout!!!!
(lucky you that he's asleep - mine is still wide awake and fighting me for the mouse!!)

My ds turned 1 bout 2 weeks ago, he's just started with the same behaviour, he has always been a dream to go to sleep on his own. The last week he has started to fall asleep in our arms due to being completely exhausted but the minute you put him in his cot he starts to sob his heart out. He refused to go to sleep at nursery (which he started about a month ago) yesterday so was awake for nearly 12 hours and still was hysterical being put in his cot. CC is not working so far... Someone mentioned that it could be Separation Anxiety...? What are your thoughts? Also started to bite his hand really hard, which I imagine is down to his molars or something coming through..... This is so not like him. HELP!
