Security 'article' is my boobs!

My daughter 2 years 5 months, has never had a dummy. She had no security blanket type object ever & has never been attached to any toy for more than a week. She doesn't suck her thumb or fingers, or twirl her hair or have any of those kind of behaviours.

I thought that perhaps her lovely wool/cotton sleeping bag (which she wore until 18 months) was a security object for her, however I've begun to suspect that her 'security' object is ME! or more spefically my boobs (BF until 14 months). After we read at night, we have a cuddle & she sticks her hand down my top and has a grab. She will also do it if she is upset or tired & we are having a cuddle. Ideally she would like to go to sleep holding them but I don't lie with here until she sleeps - just a cuddle then I'm out of there and leave her to it.

I don't really mind, but it will have to stop. She thinks its funny & lovely.

If I'm not around it's not really an issue for her so perhaps it's just a way to be close to me & not a security issue?

Do all kids have security blankets/objects? Anyone else had security boobs?

dd went through phases of this. it is kind of sweet, unless she is screaming to hold them in the supermarket checkout queue.

Fliight · 21/04/2010 11:57

still do and he is nearly 3.

I have no answers for you

FreakoidOrganisoid · 21/04/2010 11:59

DS is the same (2.4) though he also has a dummy. If he's tired, upset, hurt etc he comes straight to my lap and sticks his hand down my top. I just keep removing his hand and now I usually just say "hand" and he'll move it but it doesn't stop him doing it again

cory · 21/04/2010 12:48

Lots of children I know have done that, including my own dd. She isn't still doing it as a teen, you know. It can be gradually phased out without causing any major upsets.

Downdog · 21/04/2010 12:54

it is sweet I agree - she has pinched me a couple of times but has got a short shift & so tends to behave LOL!

Thankfully she doesn't demand to do it in public .... well yet anyway!

She calls them 'my booboos' and my OH says "no they're my boo boos" and they have this quite sweet & funny argument and laugh.

I do put them right though - they are MY boo boos thanks!

I'll continue not to make a big deal of it, and make sure she doesn't get too focused on them

DS is nearly three and hasn't had a BF for about 6 months, maybe more. He still loves nothing more than to snuggle my boobs "because they're wibbly"

He doesn't ask in public and he's gradually stopped touching them of his own accord - with the odd nudge that he's a big boy now and he can have a cuddle instead. If he sees me naked or in my bra he has to cuddle my tummy or my boobs. Cute but definitely waning with age and patience.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 21/04/2010 13:15

My dd is nearly nine and obsessed with mine. She wasn't BF but loves wobbling them. She completely ridicules the idea that she'll have a pair of her own in a couple of years time.

AnnieBeansMum · 21/04/2010 13:17

My DP went through a stage like this. It lasted about 3 or 4 months and then she all of a sudden just stopped. The only time she goes for them now is if she has hurt herself.

It'll pass.

AnnieBeansMum · 21/04/2010 13:18

UMM...my DD went through this stage, not my DP.

Yeah, my DS2 still does this. You can kiss goodbye to any freedom of movement for the next... oooh... five years should do it.

LOL at Annie

DD (5.6) was breastfed for a very long time. She still likes to have a little fondle of my breasts when I kiss her goodnight! She has never had a dummy, bottle, soft toy or other comforter either.

redwhiteandblue · 21/04/2010 15:45

dd2 at 2: 11 loves nothing more than a fondle of my boobs, accompanied by "I love your breasts, Mummy". She slips her hands down my top at any opportunity

She'll grow out of it so it doesn't bother me but it drives my mum mad

Nemofish · 21/04/2010 21:27

Dd is a thumb sucker, but wasn't bfed past 6 weeks, and still likes a good rummage when feeling tired and cuddly. Will also ask to cuddle / hug them when we are in the bath

It is something I will use to mortify her into silence when she is doing my head in older.
