Can you teach empathy? And if you can how?!

DS doesn't seem to understand how his actions effect others (especially his brother!) - he's 6 - and if there is anyway I can help him understand I'd like to try!

I've taught my son (has Aspergers) to empathise by demonstrating, as far as possible what it is like to be on the other end of his actions. For example if he steals, he gets something of his "stolen".

Apparently its called "cognitive empathy".

I look into that MaryBS.

Funnily enough when I picked him up from school after posting this there was a note in his bag about a story they were going to be reading in school about 'feelings' and how we (as parents) were going to be involved in the learning!!

That sounds good - can you get a copy of the book? Its really helpful if you enforce what is learnt at school, it means consistency.
