My baby is seven months old and im getting a bit worried because she still cannot sit up on her own. She hasnt show any sign of trying to crawl either, if i lay her on her tummy she just eats the floor and get all frustrated. Is she developing normally or should i speak to my health vistor?

Its certainly within the normal ranges - I think not sitting isn't a problem until at least a year and some babies never crawl.

Might be worth mentioning it to the HV but do try not to worry about it.

My ds wasnt totally steady at sitting up until he was just over 7m but he then crawled at 8m and walked at 10m so nothing to worry abotu at this stage I wouldnt have thought.

StealthPolarBear · 16/04/2010 18:18

IIRC the 8month check was to check that sort of thing, and I was under the impression if the baby couldn't, a follow up would be arranged, but that it was no big deal at that stage. Hope that helps.

BTW my DD is 7 months and hasn't rolled over yet. She has only shown an interest in crawling in the last day or so. She can sit up. She is totally different to DS.

Sorry the couldn't was to sitting. I think lots of babies never crawl - as long as they're trying to move themselves round (which mine isn't yet, at 7m) all is OK

Lulumaam · 16/04/2010 18:20

my DS sat and i mean sat unaided properly and solidly at 4 months, and it is not hazy memory, as i have picture of him with teh date on it DD on the other hand, although could sit at 6 months, did not do so really properly until 8 mths

neither crawled until 11 months, neither rolled until 12 months and DS walked at 18 months, DD was 17 months.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 16/04/2010 18:20

No should about it. Some babies can at this age, some can't.

My dd didn't sit up until 9 months and crawled at 10 months but she did have problems.

My DD got a cross in the box at her 8 month check up for not sitting but then crawled a couple of months later - before learning to sit!
She obviously wanted to move around and not just sit there.

BertieBotts · 16/04/2010 18:30

She is really little yet, don't worry. DS crawled at 8 months and was one of the first in our group of friends (from antenatal classes), but he didn't sit up at all until 9 months (I think he was the last). I think that he just didn't want to sit still!

NoahAndTheWhale · 16/04/2010 18:33

DS couldn't sit at 7 months but then crawled at 8 months. DD could sit at 6 months but couldn't move until 10.5 months. Both walked at 15 months.

BertieBotts · 16/04/2010 18:38

Just looking through my old diary to check dates - I had forgotten this, we used to sit DS up in a washing basket and pad it out with blankets/pillows so he couldn't fall over!

He actually crawled (commando style!) at 7.5 months, but as I said he was one of the earliest in the group. He was the youngest as well - so 6 out of 7 babies in my peer group weren't crawling at 8 months.

I am sure she is just busy developing some other skills, don't worry

StealthPolarBear · 16/04/2010 19:24

Yes, it all evens out
I ahve never seen my DS roll front to back yet - he is 3 Think that bit of the baby book might have to stay blank
