Private speech therapy costs?

I spoke to a private speech therapist today about getting an assessment of DS who is 2.6. We are in London, so I know prices will be hiked, but is £170 extortionate? The therapist I spoke to sounds good and has good testimonials but that's a lot of money......

Have you tried your local sure start centre? Lots of them have in house speech and language therapists. Or your health visitor can refer you for a free assessment. Your son is still only young so a short wait would hopefully be OK but you may be keen to get stuff sorted.

Thanks, yes tried NHS routes first but because I am working I just can't get to drop in centres. I just wanted to put mind at rest/know what we might need to deal with quickly, then take what we know back to GP.
