How to explain to five year old boy where babies come from

My son asked me about this today. I found myself saying mummy and daddy had a "special cuddle" (ugh!) which, unsurprisingly, confused him further.

I've promised him a fuller explanation tonight. (We were on the way to a friend's house at the time, which luckily got me out of going into further detail).

Any tips on what to say and how much detail to go in to?

My neighbours little boy (6 at the time) told me on the way from school that the daddy gives the mummy a special seed which then grows in the mummy's tummy. Think the mum didn't actually tell him how the daddy gives the mummy the seed though but think at age 5, that's not needed!

I have bought "How did I begin?" for dd (just 6)

That basically says that mum and dad have a special cuddle, that dad puts his penis inside mummy and the sperm go inside her and look for the egg.

It is quite a factual book - using proper terminology, but put in simple terms.

Dd was absolutely fascinated, though at the special cuddle bit, she gave me her best disgusted look and said "Why on earth would anyone want to do THAT!"

We have been discussing kwomozones, and umbility cords often in the car of late.....She is particular excited to learn that our next door neighbour is apparently PG (or so DH tells me) and wants to take the book round to discuss with her friends. I do hope DH has not made a mistake.....
