Issues with poo in DS 2.5

DS is 2.5 and has always had problems pooing. He was very constipated when he was younger, but I've realised that over the last few months, he's been doing little tiny dribbles of poo almost constantly, so no sooner have I changed his nappy than he smells of poo again. He never really does a sizeable motion, it's always little smears (sorry to be so disgusting!) I'm dreading toilet training. He's supposed to be toilet trained for when he goes to pre-school in September, but I just can't see it happening. Anybody have any experience of this?

Have you been to the doctor's? It does sound as though he's still very constipated. DS1 is 3.5 and has had similar - it has caused him to regress in potty training because he often does such a little poo that it gets stuck between his buttocks. We've just finished a course of lactulose with no major improvement. Will watch this thread with interest.

My ds (3yr) has had this exact problem for about 9 months, he has been on 15ml of senokot and lactulose for the past 4 months without much progress. We have finally got a referral to the incontinance clinic. DS is in pants and on the days he has these driplets its a nightmare, the days he dosnt poo are fine though as he is full dry. He is getting slightly better with being on the meds but he still only poo's every 3 or 4 days.

yy to going to see the Dr

The overflow of liquid poo around the main blockage of hard dry poo causes the leakage

As a side issue, pre-school cannot insisit on a child being potty trained before they start, there is legislation against it in the DDA
