Nightmares/bad dreams in 5yo

My DS is 5.5yo and has been having bad dreams/nightmares for nearly a year.

We have had some bad issues going on (search VengefulKitty and you will see) but I thought that I had shielded DS from most of it.

Day-to-day DS is a fine and lovely boy. No issues whatsoever.

But come night time he is constantly crying out in his sleep and thrashing about.

If I move him to my bed it seems to comfort him, but I have no qualms that he is fully unaware of this at the time and it is not a ruse to get into my bed.

I have been told that I sleep talk and I have been known to try to throw someone/thing off me whilst sleeping and screaming "get the fuck off me" at the same time.

Are DS's seemingly bad dreams just something that I have passed on or do you think that it could be something more? Is it normal for a 4-5yo to have these kinds of nights on a very regular basis? I mean 5-6 times a week minimum.

DS does talk like I do, but he seems truly distressed and cries out to leave him alone, and 'I don't want to' etc.

It sounds so distressing to me!

Any advice is TIA.
