Confused and worried...

Hi
DS is 17mo. old (tomorrow!) and is an all around sweet, intelligent, communicative, vibrant boy. he smiles, babbles (no real words yet, mainly goo-goo da-da etc., we speak one language at home and he hears English everywhere else- including nursery), makes great eye contact with myself and DH and plays great with other children (reacts to them, plays peek-a-boo, etc.).

In the past few days I have noticed he doesn't respond when I call him by his name. he has done so in the past (mainly when he's concentrated on something), but it is now more obvious. I can call him 7, 11 times- only then will he turn his head to me.

My nephew has Asperger's syndrome, and I am naturally worried.
Please tell me that I should stop thinking crazy, it's all in my head and that I am being absolutely unreasonable and hysterical.

Don't worry. Have you tried to make a noise behind him, out of sight like clapping your hands, see if he turns? It could be something as simple as a bit of glue ear/wax build up if he can't hear you.

Maybe speak to your HV/GP after the weekend if you are still worried assuming he doesn't respond.
