DS smells things

My DS (7) smells things, not everything, and I've never really thought of it as an issue - just that he was interested. Now though he doesn't like people touching his things and leaving their smell on it. Has anyone experienced this? Is it just a phase. Apart from that he's a normal 7 year old boy.

my dd does this, she is onyl .6 though. I find it quite cute, in an endearing kind of way - DH does it too when no-one is looking

however the fact that he can smell ther people's smell after touching his things is extraordinary!! He must have an amazing sense of smell - I am impressed (but cannot unfortunately offer any kind of helpful advice, only awe)

My 3 year old DS sometimes says things smell like a colour. the stairs in our flats smell like pink apparantly.
