nap for 18mo - reduce in order to help her drop it?

My dd is 18mo and can still sleep for up to 2 hrs during her nap which is jsut after lunch. She will start nursery in january 2011 and will be attending in the afternoon.

Do they tend to drop their nap themselves over the next 6-12 months? Because I can't see how I can get her to have it earlier and I think after 3.30 it would be to late to have a rest.

I just wonder if I should limit it to 1 hour for now so she learns to get most sleep at night. I think she can sometimes be more wakeful at night if she has the full 2 hours during the day - but must admit I love the peace so I sometimes let her have it!

I am asking because I had a nap till I was at least 5 yrs old.

Someone said that sometimes kids will skip the nap on nursery days (she'll do 3 days a week ) and will have the nap on the other days. Thoughts?

I wouldn't do anything yet, you've got bags of time and if she can still sleep for two hours then she obviously needs it.

DS1 still has a nap for an hour and a half and he'll be 3 in May. You've got ages yet, I'd leave it for now.

ok thanks, just wondered if there were any signs I should look for or whether I should be doing anything. Clearly not! Cheers.
