Taking 7wo dd for Cranial Osteopathy tomorrow - What to expect?

Dd has a flat head on one side and its getting worse. On the reccommendation of a mumsnetter I am taking her to a Cranial Osteopath tomorrow for the first time.

What do they do exactly? Will dd be upset by it?

my friend is an osteopath. they very gently move the head with the fingertips - hardly noticeable for the baby. said to realign neck and release trapped nerves that may be a result of a traumatic birth. heard great things about it helping lop-sided babies and those with colic and, as you say, flat heads.
my husband is a doctor though and thinks its all a load of b*@*ks. i'm open-minded.
maybe look at putting your dd into an amby hammock rather than a cot or moses basket as it supports the correct part of the body and takes the pressure off the head causing it to be flat.
let me know if the osteopath performs miracles as i'd delight in letting dh know!

I took my ds when he was about 10 weeks, never having been to any alternative therapy type things myself. It was helpful? I think? He'd been ventuse and big bubbles, fussy, nursing constantly so I thought why not.

It won't hurt her. They will lay her down and gently gently massage (more like touch) her head. My DS turned into putty in her hands, clearly relaxed, it was fascinating, and had a big sleep after. We went 2 more times and then she said her work was done, unless she hears otherwise, which seemed quite honest to me...

Hope it goes well

Please do come back and let us know how you get on. My DD is 6 weeks old and always has her head turned to the right hand side......flat side of head as a result! Would love to know if an osteopath is worth the money.

I will let you know what happens and if it works.

Im quite interested. She was 8lb 13 and had her hand over her face when she came out and Im sure that has done something.

Its £29 a session so Im hoping it wont take many!

CO is amazing and works. My son and I have had it and I know it is working and doing good. Good luck.

heth - yes, it most definitely is worth the money.

Both mine went (and still do). It worked really well for them. Expect your DC to be a bit grouchy after the first go.

Read this for encouragement, I will go find the original thread. Not the same problem but shows you that it isn't mubo jumbo

Well, it was very interesting!

She had a feel of dds back, neck and head and asked of questions. I failed to tell her that the mw thought she was back to back when I was in labour and dd turned as she came out. The woman asked me if I had back ache when she was checking dd over - That was proof for me that she was for real!!!

She said that dd has stress in her neck from where she engaged early and was back to back for a short time. She also said her forehead is a bit squashed because of this.

Im going back for 2/3 sessions to try to sort the problems out. Dd has had a snuffle since birth and she thought that its because she is a bit squashed so if it goes it will be a good way of telling it works.

From today I think it was worth it and am hoping it works for dd. I will keep you updated...

Glad it went well and good for for the rest of the sessions.

That is great.

The man who treated my baby son picked up things there is no say he could have known or got from me so I know it works too.
