If my 16 month old insists on climbing up on the sofa...

there isn't a lot I can do, is there?

She is much more adventurous than dd1 was at this age and when dd1 was younger we lived in an old house with very thick carpets so I didn't worry so much.

Now we have laminate flooring and an open plan living area with three sofas. She can climb onto two of those.

She knows how to get down again but I am constantly worried she will lean over the end and go out on her head.

I try to watch her every minute and take her with me when I leave the room but sometimes I turn away for a minute and she is up again.

Do I let her get on with it?

I'd just let her get on with it, but if makes you feel better you could put large cushions at either end, where you think she is likely to fall.

If she does fall it will be a natural reaction for her to put her hands out so it is unlikely that she will fall full force onto her head anyway.

Not much you can do unfortunately. Ds was doing this from 10m but he never actually really did any harm.

I'd let her get on with it too tbh

Thanks everyone.

My sister says I should just be grateful she isn't dancing on the kitchen table like her ds1 was doing at this age.

Maybe she'll get bored if I just let her do it and move on to something new.

I was totally PFB with dd1 and am trying to be more relaxed with dd2.

like you I concentrated on teaching dd to get down safely, and then I let her get on with it

worst case scenario is she will have one bump and never again

My 17mth old DD climbs onto the sofa and across to the window and sits there saying "mummy, look!" and smearing snot on the glass.

She has fallen off once or twice and is now noticeably more careful!
