Problems with 5year old & new sibling

Hi, I have just had my third baby andhave already a five year old and a two year old. They both adore their new sister.

My five year old has always been very calm, gentle and happy to listen and collaborate.

For a while now, possibly since his sister arrived, has his beahviour changed totally. He also started school in September.

His is now often angry andcan turn in a second and start kicking and hitting and shouting. He has an awful attitude and say things like 'I don't care I hate you' - very much out of his gentle character.

We find that we have screaming sessions several times a day and I am getting very tired from it but more the point, don't know how to handle it. I don't believe in punishments (but in rewards, rules and structure). I tell hom off to mark that his behavious isn't OK and once he has calmed down, he knows it's wrong, appoligises and says 'he will try to do his best'. But the outbursts last longer and are difficult to manage and more aggressive.

I am getting worried that this is a lasting thing, or is it just a phase?

How shall I handle it? I suspect it's a subcoscious reaction to his sister's arrival and maybe the change in starting school but not sure.

Any one else similar experiences?

i think it is definately a reaction to starting school and having a new sibling . 2 major changes to his life
I am hoping you get some good advice because I fear I may be in the same situation soon . I have a 4 year old who starts school in september and a 2 year old who will be in pre school. I am due to give birth to baby no 3 in July . My 4 year old has started acting up already and the pre school think he is reacting to the fact I am pregnant and is a attention thing . he keeps trying to make himself sick and trying to get the school to send him home. we are also getting some very naughty behavour at home
