poo habits - sorry if TMI

DD2 is 8.5 months old. Until she was about 7 months old her pooing habits were very irregular she used to only go every two or three days even sometimes not for a week and her poos were often quite hard. She had silent reflux for which she still takes omeprazole, and I exclusive BF her for 7.5 months so was strange that she suffered with constipation.

The about 1 month ago I stopped BF and put her on formula, this coincided with her finally sleeping a bit better (we did do some sleep training with her) and also eating much better, she started eating three meals a day and much more quantity.

But she for the last month now seems to poo 3, 4 or even 5 times a day, they are no longer hard but v soft and pretty unpleasant and much much smellier than they used to be (although what poo is pleasant)...she has been teething too but is this normal(although guess better than constipation)? She does her first poo around 5am which is pretty annoying as she won't then go back to sleep once i have had to get her up and change her and she then does at least 2 or 3 more throughout the day. She eats hardly any fruit (doesn't seem to like it) and not much dairy other than her formula (won't touch a yoghurt) but does eat a lot of vegetables eats chicken, lamb, fish etc.

Thanks

My son poo's that often and has done since on solids. Someone said if I gave him a more rubbish diet i.e. less fibre his poo would lessen and harden up but I just deal with it personally, as I'm not trying to potty train him or anything so I'd rather he was eating well.

Your DD's diet sounds excellent. Maybe another mumsnetter will have a plan though that I can't think of...

When you say soft poo, is it diarrhoea?

To be honest I think some babies poo more than others and it's pretty normal. Before she started on solids, my DD was breastfed and only used to poo twice a week. She's now just turned 2 and I would say 3 poos a day is about average. 4 is not unheard of, and sometimes she doesn't go at all. Like your DD she eats healthily and her poo habits don't seem to bother her so I don't worry. I am however concerned that the unpredictability (she doesn't have set times when she goes etc) will make potty training rather difficult......hence why I keep putting off starting!

no not Diarrhoea just very soft. i think hearing that both your two have not disimilar habits makes me think it is normal. it doesn't seem to bother her and isn't giving her a bad nappy rash or anything and her diet is good. better out than in!!!! just means we always need spare clothes with us and go through a lot of nappies!!! hey ho. thanks.
