14 month old DD obsessed with palm of hand...

Hi there - my 14 month old DD is obsessed with the palm of her hand...to explain, she grazed it about 6 weeks ago (not too badly really) and seems to suddenly remember it and keeps staring at it...several times a day...

If we touch her palms now she quite often bursts into tears even though there is no longer a sign of any injury - she does this particularly when she is tired - is she traumatised - should we worry about this?

What can we do to allow her to forget it or is there no need to worry?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Did you make a big fuss when she grazed it? Lots of cuddles/'poor DD'/ice pack that sort of thing? If so, and if you're checking it each time when she whines then it is probably reinforcing the negative connotations.

Can you give her some playdough/paint to put on her hands and change her perception? If not, just completely ignore it - she'll soon learn that if it gets no attention, there's no point doing it.

Had a charge who was on Medised for 2 weeks because of his snotty nose, also had lots of tissues in the day, etc. Escalated to the point he would scream in his cot at night for a whole package of wet wipes and tissues because he had this obsession with wiping his nose. It's a learned habit, not something causing actual distress.
