what to do for my baby who hates her buggy...

my 3 month old has suddenly started screaming every time she gets put in her (nice, comfortable) buggy. she was never keen on it, but used to stop crying once she was out of the house. now she cries all the way to school and back for both school runs. my back aches if I use the sling and I dont want to drive...I also need to go to the shops etc. any advice on how to help her enjoy it? I have tried turning the buggy so she looks out, and sat it up a bit, but no help

um, hard one, my sister in law had the same problem-she got a new buggy and it worked for her!! maybe it's just a phase, stick some toys on there for her to gawp at!

try a different sling

back shouldnt ache with a decent one
I carry my one year old everywhere at the moment and no aches

Yes, get a better sling, or maybe adjust the buggy so she can see less, not more - might be getting overwhelmed.

compo · 22/03/2010 19:06

could you wrap her up in something that has your smell on it - like a muslin, cardi etc?

Some babies hate lying down, so you will probably have this problem until she's about 5 months old and can sit competely upright rather than laying in a carrycot.

Invest in a better sling or pull the hood up and give smiles to everyone who gawps.

well what worked for us was getting a parent-fac9ng pushchair. though if you already have one then it's obv not that!

another idea would be a different sling. you shouldn't get back ache from using a decent one

What bronze said. I carry my 11 month old around in a sling (one of these) and my back never aches. I carry him on my front more than on my back at the moment as well.

Back used to ache a lot when I used the baby bjorn when DS was little - before I realised there was a whole world of lovely slings out there...

Is your buggy forward or parent facing? DS hated his forward facing buggy but is now happy to travel in his parent facing one.

How much can she see out? I propped mine up as much as I dare at that age. Definitely helped.

GladioliBuckets · 22/03/2010 19:17

A wrap sling is the best support for long distances and shouldn't upset your back. Woven, rather than stretchy, will last longer (ie carries heavier weights better).

confuddledDOTcom · 22/03/2010 19:27

I have trouble with my back (PGP for the last 4.5 years) and use the wrap all the time. I use either jersey or fleece (oddly I've used woven and find it's too much pressure) and have carried newborn premature babies up to three (although not often or far but that's a centre of balance thing).

If you'd like to try one cheaply I do them through my Doulaing. Let me know and I'll leave my email address.
