8 month check - hearing test?

Hi,

DS is due his 8 month check with the HVs (who I trust as far as I can throw them, and round here they build them big) next week. He had his hearing tested with the clicky machines and electrode stuff at birth in hospital. Is he due to have a hearing test at his 8 month check up too?

Reason I ask is that DD (2.4) now was born prematurely and is still under consultant care. She also had her hearing tested before she was discharged from the Neonatal Unit, nothing at her 8 month check, I didn't think anything of it, then when she went to the consultant she said she should have had another hearing test and referred us to audiology (having grommets shortly but that's another story). Anyway, I wasn't sure whether she should have had one because she was early, or because all babies do, or generally what the norm is (or indeed if it varies across the country). If I do need to make sure DS has one, I'd like to know in advance so I can be, er, "forceful" with the HVs.

Thanks v much for reading (long post, short question).

You're lucky you're having an 8 month check. My DD is 9 months and I've not heard anything from my HV. So therefore, I can't answer your question.

we dont get 8 month checks here (or proper 2 year checks) so I cant help you either. DS's hearing was checked after birth and hasnt been checked since (now 3.6years)

My DD has a recall hearing test on Thursday. She was born prem too and had her hearing tested before leaving Special Care. She passed one test with both ears but they couldn't get a clear result in either ear with the other test, hence the need for a recall test.
