Do dummies help with reflux

DS2 (5 months) has silent reflux. He's suffered a bit with it since he was born, but it suddenly seems to have got worse. As soon as he finishes feeding he starts with sore sounding burps and lots of swallowing stuff back. At night he doesn't sleep for more than two hours at a time. He wakes up crying and seems to really want to suck. I'm waiting to get a doctor's appointment to see about the reflux, in the meantime I'm wondering if it's worth trying a dummy. So far I've avoided it as I hate dummies (actually I'm mostly worried about how to get rid of it later). Has anyone found it really helps?

A dummy definitely helped DS who had reflux, he slept better and was generally happier and more comfortable after a feed.

I wasn't keen on dummies either before DC, but in his case it was a godsend for all of us.

My little girl has always had mild reflux and she's had a dummy from about 2 weeks old. She is 9 months now, still has the dummy and still brings up some of her milk after a feed.

So, whether there is any medical research on it I don't know, but it obviously didn't help in my situation.

Dummies have been proven though to reduce the risk of cot death. Also some babies like to suck! I wouldn't worry about how to get rid of it. We all get rid of them eventually. If it helps in the early days then just go with it.

A dummy won't cure reflux, but it can help with the pain. Reflux hurts!

Agree with castille - it won't cure it but will soothe baby more.

Yes, I found a dummy helps when my ds1 had it.

I don't know if it would help the reflux but you might find it difficult to introduce a dummy at 5 months, i tried to give my 3mo DS a dummy for the first time and he refused.
