Ok, so when do you start the whole supernanny back to bed technique? I thought it was too early as DS has only been in his toddler bed a week, but am dealing with the result of too long a nap this afternoon I think! Own fault...

So what's your techinque when your LO won't stay in bed and when did you start doing it? I felt he was too young for it but tonight he is really playing me up and I think I'm trying a mixture of three techinques! My usual one is I lie on the floor with a pillow and 'shhhh, shhhh' until he goes off. But this didn't work tonight, so then I tried getting him up for 15 minutes and then doing the whole routine again. So now he is wide awake of course, and when I left him to it this time I started the 'it's bedtime' put him back to bed, then 2nd time 'bedtime', then 3rd put him back in not saying anything.

So now he's thoroughly confused, out of bed and crying 'mummy, mummy' and frankly it will be my bedtime soon and I haven't even managed to eat dinner yet!

What would you do?

We've most used the kneel on floor and gradually work your way out of the room one. Think officially called gradual withdrawal. But agree sounds like he may well have slept too long. When DS was ready to give up his nap at 2.5 years he'd be up til 9.30 too. We've also sat outside his door reading before. Maybe read a story with him and then tell him its time for bed and if he doesn't go to sleep then they'll be no ?? tomorow. Depends how old he is.

Good luck

Thanks kateecass! Yes, I think I'm going to start limiting the nap, there's definitely a link now between long naps and bedtime nightmares! Also I didn't get him to do enough running around/fresh air post nap, just playing indoors which doesn't use up enough toddler energy! Shame, goodbye to a long break in the afternoon!
