When should periods come back after giving birth? 6 mo' no sign

I have ebf my son to 6 months and he only has two bf a day now. However I still haven't got a period. I know bf delays this but I have a friend who is bf exclusively and started her period as normal.

Should I be worried?

Ooh I'm jealous!

Mine came back at 5 months. I was really hoping it wouldn't come back for much longer. AFAIK it's perfectly normal for it not to come back until you actually stop BFing, so could be quite some time potentially.
No need to worry AFAIK.

DS2 is 15m now and still no period - perfectly normal

boogeek · 15/03/2010 17:31

Yes, it varies for everybody. I made it to 21 months (twice!) which is for me the single best reason to continue bf as long as possible

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2010 17:31

I was 16m with DS
DD is currently 6m, still no sign, long may it continue (especially as I'm not planning any more DCs)

I didnt get any periods until ds was 9m. I ebf for 3 months then regularly until 6m and only 1 feed a day until 9m.

TulipsInTheRain · 15/03/2010 17:41

ds2 is 13.5 months and still no period for me.

after dd it was 9 months and after ds1 it was 12 months.

EggyAllenPoe · 15/03/2010 17:51

erm...how long is a piece of string?

Although it doesn't mean fertility hasn't returned - i haven't had a regular cycle since before being pg with dd...and i think both times it was 9 months after birth i had any kind of period ...

Hatters1982 · 15/03/2010 17:57

Thanks for all of your advice it's really put my mind at rest. Now I can go back to my happy period free self without worrying.

Lucky you OP!!! I finished my weeks of post partum bleeding and went straight into a period both times despite bfing for a very long time!(still bfing Dd at 3.2years).

lowrib · 15/03/2010 19:15

I am sooo

ShowOfHands · 15/03/2010 19:20

DD was 13 weeks and I was bfing every 2hrs day and night. Grr.

Bear in mind that often when they return you ovulate before you have a period so it's possible to get pg again without ever having a bleed.
