DS1 is 135cm tall but isn't 9 yet for a few days. According to the site I have looked at he doesn't need any car seat now, just a seat belt. He isn't very tall for his age IDT so 135cm or aged 12 seems a big gap.

I think he is still okay in his seat, he doesn't look too tall/big for it, but is there a danger to him being still in a seat when he doesn't need it? He is in a rodi xp.

The 135cm / 12 yo thing is what I read too.
Maybe no harm in keeping him in his seat a bit longer if he still fits it.

In Ireland, it's 150cm. 135cm seems really little to be using just a belt.

I thought the 135cm was EU wide HOMEMADECHUTNEY. I think in Ireland it is 135 also.

Apparently all children are safer in a booster till 150cm but those who set the rules thought there would be an outcry if they said 150 so they said 135. DS is 8 and is 135 and none of his friends have boosters and he gets teased if he does.

Well I stand corrected HOMEMADECHUTNEY - sorry! See here

If that is EU wide then it should be UK also.

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 15/03/2010 09:36

Oh ok, maybe got confused (not difficult). Def had it in my head about kids being safest in booster seats til they're 150cm. Made ds1 use a booster til he was that height, and he did get teased but I thought it was more important to be safe.

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 15/03/2010 09:37

Sorry, crossposting!!

Buda · 15/03/2010 09:38

UK websites also say EU wide law but that it is 135 - see here.

And they wonder why we get bloody confused.

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 15/03/2010 09:59

Yes it's crazy. There is a massive difference between 135cm and 150cm! I had assumed that every country in EU had the 150cm rule. In ireland there was a bit of an outcry when it was introduced, but tbh I don't know if it's been strictly enforced. I think it's down to parental responsibility (again). Would always err on the side of caution.

Elsa123 · 15/03/2010 13:26

Good Lord- I woudl have been in a booster seat until I was 15 if 150cm was a rule when I grew up! I'm only 161cm now! All these things you learn....

tapeworm · 15/03/2010 13:34

I am 148cm tall and I have sat on a cushion in a few cars I have had for driving. I would be massive on a proper booster seat though.
