12 month old suddenly acting insecure

My DS is being weird. He's with a childminder 4 days a week and they tell me he's happy there. But when I take him home he just tantrums until he's picked up and cuddled. Whereas he used to play on the floor with me really happily. He's also suddenly got obsessed with stuffed toys - he hugs them with manic desperation. I can't helping thinking I've done something to make him insecure. Of course I love cuddling him, but it's just not practical to cuddle him for hours on end. And I don't want him to be a clingy spoilt brat either. I'm hoping it's just a short lived phase - anyone going through it?

This is really common. It's quite normal for a 12 month old to become really clingy, insecure and scared of things. Don't worry, it won't last long, but it is an indication that he has become aware of some of the dangers in the world around him and that he loves his mummy very much. It can get too much, but enjoy the cuddles!

Ah, thank you. I was beginning to think it was just us and I'd done something wrong! I felt really guilty when he was desperately hugging his toys - like he wasn't getting the hugs he needed from me. Really good to know it's normal. Appreciate your taking the time to tell me...
