Rough play turned bad

After school today, DS and friends playing in park. All roughness and wrestling, all in good humour, like most days. He got hurt in the "play" by child A and fought tears. Then in anger thumped boy A on legs.

Should I speak to A's mum? (She wasn't there) He will be apologising tomorrow and was made to try to patch things up today. He is being punished and is not allowed to go back to park for the rest of the week. BTW DS is nice natured, in reception and friendly with A all other time.

What would you do?

I wouldn't make such a huge deal about it. I wouldn't drag the punishment out for a week.

Giving him a bit of a lecture and getting him to apologise should be enough.
