Tummy Time

How much time should I be aiming to let my 4month old spend on his tummy? He's not particularly happy there for long, but I guess he needs to do this in order to learn to crawl...

First of all, if it really upsets him, don't worry about it. If you hold him against your chest, does he lift his head? That actually counts as Tummy Time as well, and some babies prefer that to actually lying on their tummies.

Second of all babies were learning to crawl for aeons before anyone came up with Tummy Time!

Good point Tee!
His neck muscles are very strong. He just seems to want to sit up and look around all the time. Just have to let him do his own thing i guess

My 5 mo DD doesn't like tummy time too much, either, but has a strong neck and back, anyway, from lying on us, etc. She's not figured out to use her arms to lift herself at all, so won't be crawling for a while. However, lots of people with older babies tell me how much easier it is before they are mobile
