oh my gosh am so embarrassed took DS2 to be weighed and DS1 who is 26 months cannot pronounce the word 'LOOK' instead says 'F*' he has a baby lisp(think I spelt that right) he was so excited showing me all the toys that spent the best part of an hour using the F word.

I didn't know what to do just sat there with a red face and was getting some pretty dirty looks from other mums!

any advice on how to deal with this the thing is he is not meaning it....its just the poor guy cant pronounce words correctly

Me: What did you say?
DS: F*ck
Me: LOOK at what darling?

etc, etc....

fortyplus · 08/03/2010 23:44

Errr... practise with other 'L' words? Lick, love, lolly... anything you like. Get close to him so he can see your mouth and exaggerate the tongue coming off the back of your top teeth (try it and you'll see what I mean). He'll copy you and soon get the hang of it.

And when he says 'Fook, car!' or whatever, repeat LOUDLY after him 'Yes, LOOK at the car!'

And don't be embarrassed!

Oh dear! Some good suggestions. Ds used to pronounce 'coke' with a strange accent and it sounded like 'cock' i feel your

I just used to repeat back to him the correct way ds 'mum, girl has cock' 'yes the girl is drinking coke'

He can now say it correctly, but it didnt happen overnight.

ShinyAndNew · 09/03/2010 09:35

Just be glad that you don't have dd2 and her over use of 'cock'

We currently have;

Babies cocks = babies cots
Cock = coke
Scary moncock = scary monster
Cockporn filums = film and popcoen
Mine cock = My coat
Big cock little cock = Big cook little cook.

claw3 · 09/03/2010 09:42

LOL im loving big cock, little cock

Cant was another of ds's strange accent, well you can imagine what that used to sound like!

Friend of mine had to suffer her LO screaming 'Big Tits' on many an occassion from her buggy whilst she walked through a local shopping centre.

Was quite a while before she learned how to pronounce 'biscuits' properly!

DD (3.5) hasn't got pronunciation problems, but she seems to have developed an ability to say totally inappropriate things, very loudly. So in public I sometimes have to sort of interrupt her/talk over her before she says things. Its probably not good parenting, but it does save the blushes. E.g. recently in quite a posh restaurant:

DD (in 1000 decibel small-child shout) :'I went to the toilet with Daddy'
Me: 'Oh that's good'
DD:' And Daddy did a wee too.'
Me (whispers): 'Oh did he, well done Daddy.'
DD: ' Yes and his wee came out of his...'
Me (talking loudly over DD): 'Why don't we get a drink, are you thirsty?'

There's definitely something to be said for the 'talking over them' technique in certain circumstances!

oh we have the cock problem too....he calls clock cock and also daddy's watch is also daddy cock!
