since baby arrived my 3year old has to walk every where or has to use his training bike (bike without pedals).

he manages about just over a mile (playground and back) without too much off a fuss.

how much does your child manage?

My middle child got out of his push chair at about 20 months and refused ever to get back in. He walks everywhere, as far as I do, when he has a tantrum I have to carry him though.

Dd3 is 2y6mo and walks 2 miles a day when going backwards and forwards to school. She has been doing it for a good 6 months or so.

My DCs have always been happy walking all over the place. DS3 who is 2.5 walks to school and back with me to collect his brothers and it's a 1.5 mile round trip so he does that twice a day and we usually have a mile or so's walk during the day too.

DD hasn't used a pushchair at all since she was 2.10.

She can walk 2 miles with ease and does so most days, I don't usually need her to walk further than this but she has been out and walking with me all day several times and not had any problems (eg walking to train station, short train journey, walking around town at other end, breaks for lunch/drinks, back to station and walk home -no idea of actual mileage)

She has done 3.5 miles of straight walking (ie an actual walk not around town) before now but was lagging a bit on the way back.

My DD (now 3.6y) has walked to playgroup/nursery school and back for over a year (since DS was born). It is probably about half/three-quarters of a mile each way.
