Unfastening car seat belt

Know this has prob been asked before but couldn't find my exact question. Ds (18 months) learnt how to unfasten his car seat yesterday. I don't want to get into tying stuff around the fastening bit (for obvious safety reasons) and was wondering how successful people have been in rollocking them out of opening it?! I really really told him off after he had done it and he was very upset and I know he understood what he had done wrong but later just undid it again. I think he had honestly forgotten he wasn't supposed to open it. Is there any way round this, I don't want to be constantly worried while I am driving that he's going to do it again.

Does your DS have toys to play with when he's in the car?

our ds2 did this - we bought a thing called a snug sit(sometimes called a snugfit) from great little trading company (www.glc.co.uk)costs about £12 and has solved the problem,though i remember the next day delivery option was expensive. there is another website i remember googling called twinthings which was cheaper though they didn't have any in stock when i ordered so it may be worth doing a search.
good luck - i remember how horrendous it was while driving and heavily pregnant and constantly having to stop the car and fix the belt

He's got one of the things that hang over the front of the seat packed full of stuff that he helps himself to, plus those books on springs that keep him busy for about 30 seconds! I distracted him with toys yesterday after the telling off but then when got bored unfastened himself again!

Thanks hunkermunker that looks just like what we need, he can't get him arms out can just unfsten himself. May persevere for a while with the telling offs though, apparently I could unfasten mine when I was little and my mum never tied anything around it, just made it clear I wasn't allowed to unfasten it (she's always such a hero in these things.) However I've got to admit him being safe is more important than keeping my mum happy!

We're got one of these....here works a treat - and can be used on an ordinary seat belt too...stops ds escaping..

I never found any of those clip things, we always used the line the car will not move if your belt is not clipped in. I did a very dramatic (but controled) emergency stop once to demonstrate what happens, just enough to make him go forwards and bump the front seat. (in a carpark). That shocked them a bit. DD will scream her head off if I move off before she is belted in. It was never an option.

I'm interested in that product for an ordinary seat belt butI don't see how it would work - could you explain it to me? My Ds2 has special needs and is in an 4-11y booster seat with a back and a normal belt. Occasionally he slips his arm under the belt so it is not over his shoulder. We get round this by putting an old t-shirt with the back cut off on him once he is in the belt, but in the hot weather I am reluctant to put extra layers on him.

On the leaftlet it shows how it can be used to clip the two bits of a normal seatbelt together - check out the website here...here - Haven't tried it like this as ds is still in a carseat....

I'm not sure that would stop Ds2 from slipping his arm under. Perhaps I'll email them.
