Should I intervene in fights between 2 sons

my sons are 10 and almost 7 - they're constantly bickering and fighting - nothing dreadful but the eldest goads with his clever mouth and then the youngest lashes out and the older one then goes back at him. I've always tried to stop them and now it's become a daily occurrence - although they love each other, they don't seem to be able to spend more than 5 minutes together before it starts.

Just wondered if my intervening is what is keeping it all going. Apart from the fighting though, they talk back at me constantly and are very disrespectful - not sure if this is normal or how to stop it.

Thanks for listening

My 3 boys are only 3,2 and 8 months but I'm expecting lots of fighting I fought like cat and dog with my brother (15 months gap) and fwiw we love each other to bits now!
I got a copy of 'siblings without rivalry' this from the library, I obviously hadn't had much of an opportunity to put much into practise but I think it has some good stuff in it might be worth a read
