Hi,

Ds 1 is 2.7 yr his speech has always been great and really clear. over the weekend I have noticed the he is stammering mostly with the letter W in at the start of words. If you ask him to say the word on its own, he can it is hen it the word is used in a sentence that he stammers. Has this happened with anyone elses child ? Should I be concerned at this stage or will it fade as his development progresses ?

Thanks x

Hi - I'm sure you'll get lots of reassurance on this - I think lots of children go through a phase of stammering at around this age. Ds1 certainly did - he was late to talk but then was fine, but about a year or so later started stammering - it went on probably for a couple of months - but now no stammer at all. We took advice (from MN!) and ignored it - let him finish his sentences in his own time etc.

So, fingers crossed it'll fade!

Thanks for the reassurance and advice

It generally appears to be with the words that start questions, What, Who, Why etc. It is really pronounced, but that probably just because he is at the questioning stage !

Will just have to keep an eye on it for now.

Littleyawner as an ex paid nanny, teacher of of infants. mum of 3. i would do nothing!!!!

he sounds absolutely fine to me; children pick up parental anxiety so ignore the stammer don't mention it or anything and he'll grow through it.
