he's 2.7, on my lap screaming that his feet are 'ouchy' but he can walk ok, think it's imagined or dreamed or strange tantrum derivative. don;t know what the hell to think / do, 1st time anything like this has happened

tryingabitharder · 24/02/2010 23:47

Mmm, I'm not sure about the easy distraction.

Possibly they were hurting, but now he's out of bed he's milking it?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 24/02/2010 23:51

toenails? My ds does this when he breaks a toenail

tryingabitharder · 24/02/2010 23:52

yep i wondered about growing pains. he's really upset, just not like him. but he's going through a funny growing patch i think. have given him 2 min to try and calm down. reckon if i do indulgent distraction i'll be setting myself for him to have strange pains every night? am so worried that it might be v real for him, he's my pfb ffs

Could he have been kicking at the wall/bedhead/side of cot hard enough to hurt?

tryingabitharder · 24/02/2010 23:53

toenails all look fine, think he may well be going for an oscar now he's up

could he have dreamt he was in pain?

DS quite often wakes up complaining his foot is hurting. I've always assumed it's cramp/growing pains.

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 24/02/2010 23:55

I use the 'tears' rule. Genuine tears will get cuddles and medicine, whinging or similar will get sent straight back to bed.

Sometimes it works.

(my DS is a pob so I know how you feel)

tryingabitharder · 24/02/2010 23:55

i didn't hear any bangs until he got up. crying now getting a bit quiet then noticably turning up the volume, just like a tanrum petering out. he's here beside me, by the way. can't decide if I'm a heartless cow or a mug and keep swaying between the two. dh in bed sulking because he is tired and wants to sleep. thank god you lot are here or i'd be in tears by now too!

tryingabitharder · 24/02/2010 23:59

wtf is a pob? now i'm usefully distracted!

crisis over, he's calmed down, whatever it was. plenty real tears and lots of whinging. now i'm hurting him with teh side of the chair, apparently. hope it's not flu...................

want wine

So your DS is snuggled up to Mummy at nearly midnight...

Where does 'heartless cow' come in to it?

tryingabitharder · 25/02/2010 00:00

durr, sorry, you meant precious first / only too right?

ah you sound like my therapist, have a self-hate kinda problem going on. well, i'm trying to switch it off- have discovered it as root of my depression but makes judgement v hard on toddler stuff!!

I sometimes find my LO's in funny positions in bed. E.g. curled up with legs under chest. Perhaps he woke up with pins and needles? My DD once woke up with pain in her hand which I think was due to pins and needles as she was laying on it.

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 25/02/2010 00:07

Oh, I don't think so. Judgement on toddler stuff is very hard whether you have depression or not!!!

tryingabitharder · 25/02/2010 00:07

hadn't even thought of that. thanks

TTTT, you've saved me tonight, cheers

BusyMummy - DS says he's 'got lemonade' in his foot/leg/hand/arm when he gets pins and needles.

I think I might try and get this to catch on!

tryingabitharder · 25/02/2010 00:13

ooo i like that, good question to ask ds next time, if it happens again.
