At what age did you establish a bedtime reading routine?

DS is almost 7 months and I read to him here and there (obviously I understand he has no concept of this yet but the pictures are something for him to look at and I know how important it is for him to be exposed to a wide vocabulary) but we don't do it every evening before bed.

Of course there's no harm in doing it from birth but a friend of mine looked at me like I was slightly mad when I said I might add a bedtime story to the evening routine...

Not until he was about 2 and kicking off about bedtime one night so I read him a book as an incentive! Grin We read lots of books at other times of day, it just seemed like one extra faffy thing to do at bedtime before that point.

Now he's three, he gets one story sitting on my lap, one long story in bed, and one short story in bed and goes asleep listening to a story or music CD.

Started with the "That's not my..." books at about 5 months. Read 2 books most nights now, because I can never get away with one. DS loves the rhyming books so we have Peepo, Snail and the Whale, the Gruffalo, etc.
