DS (4yo) acting strange

He hates the following things:
Pigeons - crys and screams to get away from them.
Zoo animals if they make a noise - will physically pull away from me and scream.
Well basically any animals really.

He had his birthday party saturday and when bringing in the cake and everyone singing him happy birthday he would not come near it (kicked dp and got very angry) so from this I gather he dislikes being the centre of attention.

Yesterday he got angry because I wouldn't let him play on the Nintendo wii any longer so he ended up being put in his bed to calm down. Then dp went in to calm him down and he said 'don't hit me Daddy', DP couldn't understand why he said this. Then I went in there and he said 'not another one coming to hit me'!!!!!!! Why would he start saying this? Both of us NEVER EVER hit him. Then he started saying he didn't want to live here anymore and wanted to live outside in the cold. Anyway after about an hour of this 'tantrum?' he came back into the living room and was back to his normal self.
We are so confused as to why he is behaving like this.
There are times, when ds is angry, he will start to hit himself in the head?

He is happy and doing well at school.

I'm starting to wonder whether it is not normal 4yo behaviour and he has some issues? Not sure what though. Any ideas or can you share similar experiences?

my ds will also be 4 in April... he is 99% of the time an angel...
hoever the other 1% of time he too can become very upset over "basically nothing" he too says thins like i'll hit you, so get away! he will kick and smack and become rather hyperactive!
when asked to stop he ont, so he is taken to his bedroom.... 10 minutes later the angel returns antin cuddles and sayin he is sorry. askin if e are still best friends forever... as thouh he needs reasuring!! like ur self E ARE AGAINST HITTING COMPLETELY! WE do not threaten to hit either so i was confused to where he was ettin it from>>>>> until recently he told me about a boy in his class who had been pushing him over... we sorted that matter!,, andanother thin i think added to his "rage" was the new love of TOY STORY (the movie) hich i eventually realised some comments where infact copied from BUZZ LIHT YEAR! These lon ith the "fihtin style tantrums" made me belive that a normal 4 yr old "playin up" had been exadurated by him " becoming a character, takin on the roll of this super hero!!!! i kno he is growing up quickly and every day becomin more and more a " real little boy".... thankfully now i kno it was all harmless.... now if a moment comes about i too take on a charater... BUZZES ENEMY "ZERG" !! replyin to his "hitting remrks with ZERG replies.... wwwwith in moments it becomes a game, where he will end up runnin of to tackle "HIMSELF" ON THE RUG!!!!
So id just say check all is ok t school, ask the teachers and have a really ood talk ith him about school in a not so obvious way, just treat it like a random chit chat because if he's also like mine, he;s started to have real emotions reardin embaressment, as soon as he told me about this other boy i could see a kind of relief in him... as thouh he'd wanted to tell me, but wouldnt unless i asked! and also if he's into favorite movie characters... be sure to atch the movie at least once with him... it will ive you a reat understandin of the role he has / is taking on!!! and of course, remember he is a boy... andas the sayin oes " boys will be boys"!!
i hope this has helped a bit.... even if its just to assure u that ur not alone and im quite certain there are no issues to be adressed other than his lack of REAL SUPER HERO ADETS! HA!
OOD LUCK XXXX

What games does he play on the wii?

aideesmum · 16/02/2010 10:31

Thanks Victoria1985, that does make me feel better and that this is fairly normal.

He plays Super Mario Bros & Lego Star Wars (only just got this one) so maybe that has something to do with it.
